*Joint replacement rehab

Knee, hip and shoulder replacement surgeries are common these days.

Good strength and mobility prior to surgery can improve post surgical outcomes. Some physicians order pre surgical therapy but if you are considering a joint replacement surgery, you can contact our office directly for a pre surgical consultation. The physical therapists will teach you exercises that will strengthen surrounding joints and the joint that you will have replaced in surgery. Generally these ecercises will be the same exercises you will do after surgery.

Once surgery is complete, be sure to apply ice to joint as recommended and take you pain medication as prescribed. Be sure to take your pain medication 1 1/2-2 hours before your therpy session so that it is beginning to take affect during the therapy session. Therapy is painful but is not designed to be excruciatingly painful. Keeping regularly scheduled therapy appontments, roughly 6-8 weeks, is important for good therapeutic outcomes and return to normal function.
